John J. Barry, a veteran federal trial and appellate lawyer and former Assistant U.S. Attorney in our District, served with distinction as the President of the AFBNJ from 1996 to 1998. Upon his death in April 2000, the Association honored his legacy by creating a scholarship in his name. Thus, with the 24th Annual Brennan Award in 2000, the Association awarded its first John J. Barry Memorial Scholarship to a law student from each of New Jersey’s three law schools: Rutgers School of Law-Newark, Rutgers School of Law-Camden, and Seton Hall University School of Law. Over the past 17 years, the AFBNJ has awarded over $187,000 in scholarship money to local law students, underscoring the Association’s commitment to the development of New Jersey’s legal community.
We are pleased to announce that this year’s scholarships have been awarded to: Eric Macias Intriago, Rutgers School of Law – Camden ’18; Claire Nielsen, Rutgers School of Law – Newark ’18; and Joseph Pistritto III, Seton Hall University School of Law ’18
