60 YEARS AFTER GIDEON – THE CURRENT STATE OF THE RIGHT TO COUNSEL

A review of the Supreme Court’s landmark 1963 decision in Gideon v. Wainwright, in which the Court unanimously held that defendants facing serious criminal charges have a right to counsel, even if they cannot afford to hire an attorney. The panel will discuss the history of the decision, ethical obligations, and modern-day issues that impact the right to counsel.
